About Gretna Hall One of the most romantic settings in Gretna, established 1710, Gretna Hall Blacksmiths shop is perhaps the best known venue. Many places in and around the small village of Gretna Green can lay claim to being marriage venues, but Gretna Hall was the first official stop in Scotland for traveling stagecoaches and private carriages which made it the first choice for a “Blacksmith’s Wedding”, a hastily performed ceremony according to the Laws of Scotland. Today there are three marriage rooms contained within the cobbled blacksmiths courtyard; The Workshop, Cottage and Linton suite. The gardens at Gretna Hall are extensive and provide an ideal backdrop for photographs, featuring a purpose built pond, Gazebo, kissing gate and 'Gretna Green' sign alongside the large lawns and woodland. Blacksmiths Workshop
The Blacksmiths Workshop is the largest of Gretna Halls three marriage rooms and is ideally suited for larger wedding parties. The Workshop is steeped in the history and traditions of Gretna Green and hosts Gretna Halls marriage records dating back to the 1700's. The workshop has capacity for up to 60 guests. Through a side door, the workshop leads on directly into The Bridal Chamber.
The Linton Suite
Named after John Linton, Gretna Halls famous Wedding Blacksmith of the 1800’s, the room contains various items from his dedicated marriage room in Gretna Hall, of note; his signing table which now houses his original register. By signing your legal documents at his table you become part of 200 years of history, tradition and romance. The room can accommodate up to 20 people. Capacity: 60, 20, 15 Reception/Accommodation: Gretna Hall is in Gretna Green where there are many hotels. It also sits in the grounds of the three star Gretna Hall Hotel. Points to consider: Although the three rooms do not conduct weddings at the same time, it is still possible that, on busy days, you may spot another bridal party in the grounds. |
